Congratulations to the amazing Ted Jackson who has successfully rowed across the Atlantic in support of 40tude!

Ted decided to take on this challenge with just 10 days' notice at the end of 2022, in memory of his friend and 40tude ambassador, Tom Smith.  After 43 days at sea, he has made land in Antigua, some 3,000 miles from the start point in Tenerife.

"Tom Smith was a Scottish rugby and British & Irish Lions hero," explains Ted.  "More importantly he was a great friend and wonderful man who died recently from colon cancer.  Sadly he ignored the initial signs of the cancer and by the time he was diagnosed it was too late.  This matters to everyone as colon (bowel) cancer is the UK's biggest cancer killer of non-smokers.

"I am raising money for 40tude to help fund the full-time research fellow post that was recently established at St. Mark's Hospital in memory of Tom Smith.  The Tom Smith Research Fellowship is focused on identifying the genetic causes of colon cancer."

You can hear more about what motivated Ted to take on this challenge, and spend his Christmas on a small boat eating rehydrated packet food! in this short reel that he recorded before heading out to Tenerife.

So far Ted has raised a fantastic total of £25,000 for 40tude.  If you'd like to show your appreciation for his amazing effort there's still time to make a donation here.

Well done Ted!  We are extremely proud of you, and honoured that you chose to support 40tude and our mission to cure colon cancer, to help prevent other families from being affected by this disease.
