Throughout the year, a number of supporters undertake their own personal challenges in support of 40tude.

Solo cross-Channel swim:

We’re honoured that Jonpaul (JP) Miller is preparing to undertake a solo cross-Channel swim in support of 40tude.

Before the emergence of the Coronavirus, JP was assigned a window of just a few days in late August/early September, during which he was aiming to complete his challenge. He is continuing to train hard in the hope of being able to complete his swim as planned later this year.

"It has been an ambition of mine for as long as I can remember to swim the English Channel but I’ve never found the time,” explains JP.  “As I approached my 50th birthday I realised that if I didn’t do it soon I never would.

“I swam the Channel in a relay with three others last year which was a great ‘warmer in the bank’ and an insight into what lies ahead. Twice as many people have climbed Everest than swum the Channel - probably because humans aren’t supposed to swim 20 metres let alone the circa 50kms normally required to get across - oh and the view is rubbish!  It’s 34kms in a straight line but you have to swim in a curve or an ’S’ because of the currents.

“This is too good a fund raising opportunity to miss and I have decided to give all proceeds to 40tude, as it's close to my heart following my father’s death but also because it's a fabulous charity, with a clear aim which it executes brilliantly."

Ride across France:

To mark 40tude’s anniversary and all that we have achieved in partnership with St. Mark’s Hospital in our first 10 years, Dr. David Burling and fellow cyclist Russell Green plan to cycle all the way from the UK - approximately 1100 miles - to join us at the start of our ‘Alpes Maritimes’ cycle tour scheduled to take place in Provence in the early days of October.

David is a Consultant Radiologist at St. Mark’s Hospital with a specialism in CT Colonography screening.

Bon chance David and Russell!
