40tude's 2016 Catalonia Cycle Challenge a great success
Thank you and well done to all our fantastic cyclists who completed our sixth cycle challenge, which took us to Catalonia from 5th-9th October. This year 50 intrepid cyclists and their guides completed a three and a half day cycle ride from the mountains to the Mediterranean, following in the tyre tread of the Vuelta a España and taking on routes the pros frequently ride. Covering up to 160km a day with ascents of over 2500m, once again the 40tude peloton has helped to raise both awareness and funds - more than £53,000 so far - to help transform the diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer.
If you would be interested in joining us for our next cycle challenge please get in touch with Kate to register your interest.

October 2014 : Giro Italia Cycle Challenge
The 2014 40tude curing colon cancer Cycle Challenge took us in early October to Central Italy - a place that dreams are made of with its spectacular green and gold landscapes, rolling hills, Etruscan villages and medieval cities including Grosetto, Montepulciano, Siena and Florence. As a cycling challenge it offered many hills (mostly short and steep!) rewarding riders with spectacular views and charming hilltop towns. There were two levels this year - Difficile comprising a total distance of 465km and ascent of 6966m and Piccolo which covers a total distance of 423km and ascent of 5272m. The Giro D’Italia path retraced some of the routes that the pro teams race and was a stunning route and a true test of cycling endurance. For more information about the ride see our News page.

Over the next 10 hours, the paddlers covered a total distance between them of 1,352 miles facing torrential rain, blazing sunshine and ferocious head winds. September 2013 : Mallorca Cycle Challenge
Between the 18th and the 21st September 2013, 55 brave
cyclists – including three consultants from St Mark’s – undertook 40tude’s
latest cycling challenge – La VueltaMallorca 2013.The route covered over 400km of demanding
terrain which is used by the professional teams each year for early season
training.The hills of Mallorca provided
suitably iconic climbs like Soller and Sa Colobra and the group achieved a
vertical ascent of over 7km over the 3.5 days!
Commenting on another successful challenge Gordon Moore
said; “This was an extraordinary challenge for the largest 40tude peloton
yet.You really felt the individual
personal triumphs of the 55 participants in covering the route, combining
exponentially into the powerful sense of a fantastic team achievement. The atmosphere has been fabulous, with the
sense of purpose being established by the positive contributions from our three
St Mark’s consultants - showing how what we're doing is having a direct impact
on curing colon cancer.”
The 40tude London SUP Challenge was a Marathon with a difference. The distance was the same - 26 miles - but our intrepid participants didn't take a single step! This was a Stand-Up Paddle-Boarding Challenge which took place down the Thames - from Shepperton to Putney. The course combined tidal and non-tidal sections of the river passing through three locks, passing under 14 bridges and taking in the picturesque sights of Hampton Court, Syon House, Kew Gardens, Ham House and Richmond Hill. 25 participants started and 25 participants finished - alive, safe, well ... and very happy! Accompanying them were 15 Marshalls - making a total of 40 paddlers who completed London's first ever SUP Marathon in about 8hrs 30mins! You can take a look at the fun everyone had by taking a look at the YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IE1mOln72rU.
The paddlers raised a total £40,000 for St Mark's Hospital Foundation and the money raised was used fund their FLEX research project. Special thanks are owed to our headline sponsors - Skillcapital and Serco Consulting - who sponsored the entire series of 40tude events during 2013.
Over three days, 30 intrepid adventurers cycled 323km through the hills of Provence with their sights set on a 5km vertical ascent to their goal - Mont Ventoux at an altitude of 1912m. You can view the YouTube clip at: http://youtu.be/6lXKUIa9AOY.
